TOBACCO PRODUCTS REGULATION (E-CIGARETTE REGULATION) AMENDMENT BILL

Oct 19, 2017  |  speech

Mr TARZIA (Hartley) (16:38): I rise today to speak to the Tobacco Products Regulation (E-Cigarette Regulation) Amendment Bill 2017 and indicate that I will be the lead speaker on this side of the chamber.

HARTLEY ELECTORATE

Oct 17, 2017  |  speech

Mr TARZIA (Hartley) (15:21): I rise today to give a bit of an update as to some recent events that I have supported in and around my electorate. Firstly, I would like to commend the Hindu Council of Australia for the wonderful display that they put on for Deepavali (or Diwali) 2017, which is of course the Festival of Lights. It was a great day at the Wayville Showgrounds, and I sincerely congratulate the Hindu Council of Australia on what they did.

HARTLEY ELECTORATE

Sep 26, 2017  |  speech

Mr TARZIA (Hartley) (15:58): Today, I would like to start by congratulating the Campbelltown Uniting Church on the wonderful spring market that they held on the weekend. There was something for everyone at the spring market, be it craft, plants, home-baked goodies, vintage and retro stalls, a quilt display, refreshments, a barbecue, live music in the church, fairy floss, popcorn and face painting. Obviously, the church does a great job in raising funds for a whole variety of causes, and I commend them for their ongoing effort.

RIPPLES COMMUNITY ARTS

Aug 08, 2017  |  speech

Mr TARZIA (Hartley) (15:19): At the weekend, I had the great pleasure to support Ripples Community Arts Inc for their Edgy art exhibition as part of SALA 2017. It was held at The Gym on Brookway Drive, Campbelltown, in my electorate. It was a great event attended by many in the Lochiel Park family and surrounding areas as well, with many of their family and friends. It was a great opportunity to look at what was a very interesting and varied exhibition of high-quality art aspects.

SUPASHOCK

Aug 03, 2017  |  speech

Mr TARZIA (Hartley) (15:21): Recently, I was fortunate enough to join the member for Mitchell to visit local manufacturer Supashock, an outstanding company based in my electorate in Magill. It was recently announced that Supashock had reached an agreement with Rheinmetall Defence for the German technology and security group to take an equity holding in the company under a cooperative partnership. I would like to especially congratulate Supashock managing director, Oscar Fiorinotto, who recently said that Rheinmetall will take a 49 per cent stake in his company under an agreement signed in Adelaide with a member of the Rheinmetall Defence executive board and also global head of vehicle systems.

INDEPENDENT COMMISSIONER AGAINST CORRUPTION (SERIOUS OR SYSTEMIC MISCONDUCT OR MALADMINISTRATION) AMENDMENT (NO 2) BILL

Jul 06, 2017  |  speech

Mr TARZIA (Hartley) (11:01): As a politician once said, 'In any race, you can always back vested interest.' That is what we just saw then from the Independent member; we saw vested interest at work. The Independent member even picks the same example the Premier used. Could you not find two examples? What an absolute disgrace. It was probably the same speechwriter as well. The Premier stands up and he pontificates, and he uses language like 'the bill was disposed of' and it was 'thrown in the bin'.

CRIMINAL LAW CONSOLIDATION (CRIMINAL ORGANISATIONS) AMENDMENT BILL

Jul 06, 2017  |  speech

Mr TARZIA (Hartley) (16:09): I rise today to speak to the Criminal Law Consolidation (Criminal Organisations) Amendment Bill 2017, and I indicate that I will be the lead speaker on this side of the chamber. The bill in question was introduced by the Attorney-General on 21 June this year to amend the Criminal Law Consolidation Act 1935 (CLCA). I can advise that it is the opposition's intention not to oppose the bill in this house. However, we will require further consideration to either amend the bill or block the bill, and we ask for that consideration to be had between the houses and also upon consultation with several stakeholders.

APPROPRIATION BILL 2017

Jul 04, 2017  |  speech

Mr TARZIA (Hartley) (20:11): I also rise today to speak to the bill before the house. Before I do that, I want to quote Winston Churchill from many years ago when he said that a country that tries to 'tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle'. That is no more relevant than today with what this government is trying to do. These are the words of Winston Churchill many, many years ago, and how true they still ring following the budget put forward by this tired Labor government.

HARTLEY ELECTORATE

Jul 04, 2017  |  speech

Mr TARZIA (Hartley) (15:40): I rise to update the house on some recent events I have attended in the electorate of Hartley and have had the great pleasure of supporting, beginning with a recent event held by The Gums Landcare Group. The Gums Landcare Group is absolutely ready to work alongside our new Green Army project for Wadmore Reserve, The Gums and Third Creek. As we know, the Green Army provides opportunities for young Australians aged between 17 and 24 to gain training and experience that will assist them to look for jobs in the future while generating exceptional benefits for the local environment in the meantime.

ANANGU PITJANTJATJARA YANKUNYTJATJARA LAND RIGHTS (SUSPENSION OF EXECUTIVE BOARD) AMENDMENT BILL

Jun 20, 2017  |  speech

Mr TARZIA (Hartley) (12:03): I have been waiting a long time to speak on this, Deputy Speaker.
