Questions over Party Pete’s priorities

The Leader of the Opposition, Vincent Tarzia has joined Shadow Minister for Energy and Net Zero, Stephen Patterson in reiterating that the Premier’s focus should be on lowering South Australians’ power bills during this cost of living crisis.

Peter Malinauskas is in Azerbaijan to bid for Adelaide to host COP 31, the United Nations Conference of the Parties on Climate Change.

“Peter Malinauskas and his Labor Government are all in on emissions reduction, to the detriment of working South Australian families and small businesses who are contending with the highest power prices in the country right now,” said the Leader of the Opposition, Vincent Tarzia.

“South Australian families are telling us they want the Labor Government to get serious about bringing down their power and grocery bills.

“While we are open minded regarding COP31 being held in South Australia, where is the Premier’s plan to lower power bills?”

Shadow Minister Patterson said shocking statistics revealed that South Australia also boasts the highest percentage of people in the nation on hardship payments.

“This Labor Government has plunged our state headfirst into a renewables future without consideration of the impact on power prices. We all agree on a transition to net zero, but not at any cost. The energy transition must be considered and sensible, however this can’t be done at the detriment of power prices,” he said.

Mr Patterson has slammed the Government’s failure to deliver any measures that would bring down power prices, including the $700 million hydrogen plant in Whyalla.

“The Malinauskas Government’s hydrogen hoax isn’t green, we know it’s going to be powered by gas for the first 2 years, transported by up to as many as 100 B-Double diesel road trains every day - and they’ve admitted it will not do anything to provide power bill relief for South Australians.
