Upgrading Newton Road and Graves Street Intersection

Wednesday 17 July, 2019

We are one step closer to seeing another commitment I made to the people of Hartley at the last State Election come to fruition. The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) are improving the safety of motorists and pedestrians with the installation of traffic lights at the intersection of Newton Road and Graves Street.

The upgrade of the intersection will involve:

  • Installation of traffic signals
  • Installation of a separate left turn and right turn lane on Graves Street, into Newton Road
  • Installation of a new right turn lane on Newton Road, into Graves Street
  • Removal of the Pedestrian Actuated Crossing on Newton Road to the south of the intersection
  • Installation of Pedestrian Actuated Crossings at the new signals
  • Installation of a solid median on Newton Road
  • Provision for cyclists

This important upgrade will reduce the risk of crashes and deliver safer vehicle movements at the intersection. Safety for pedestrians and cyclists will be improved by provision of crossings at the signals. Site investigations have commenced, with works scheduled to commence in July 2019.

Upgrading the Newton Road and Graves Street Intersection was one of the key commitments I took to the 2018 State Election, and I am very pleased to provide you with this update.
