Liberal stalwart farewells Parliament after two decades

After two decades of dedicated service to South Australia, the Hon. David Pisoni MP, Member for Unley, has announced he will retire from his role at the upcoming State Election.

Throughout his tenure, Mr Pisoni has had a profound impact on his local community and the State at large, making significant contributions as both a Minister in the Marshall Government and as a Shadow Minister.

“It has been an absolute privilege to serve the community throughout my time in both Parliament and as the Member for Unley,” Mr Pisoni said.

“I have been actively involved in my community for the best part of four decades, not just through Parliament, but through my experience as a young business owner in the 1980’s and 1990’s.

“As a former tradesman, business owner, employer and as the Minister for Innovation and Skills, I enjoyed working with apprentices and witnessing the life changing opportunities their apprenticeships gave them.

“I was also proud to serve as a Minister in the Marshall Government during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Throughout this time, we worked tirelessly to support South Australians and delivered one of the world’s lowest death rates and fastest economic recovery, which is an achievement I am immensely honoured to be a part of.

“As the Shadow Minister for Education and Child Protection, I exposed the Department’s systemic cover up of child abuse which led to the Debelle Royal Commission.

“I also developed the policy to build a second city high school and the move of Year 7 into high school which was delivered by the Marshall Government.”

Mr Pisoni will continue to serve his local community until the State Election, to be held in March 2026.

“David has certainly had a remarkable career and I would like to thank him for all he has brought to Parliament and the Liberal Party throughout these years,” the Leader of the Opposition, Vincent Tarzia said.

“His hard work, tenacity and advocacy for his local community has been a positive force for the Liberal Party during his tenure and we look forward to his continued support as we work towards victory in 2026.”
