The latest ramping data has painted a dire picture of South Australia’s health system under Labor - with patients and paramedics spending 3479 hours stuck outside hospitals on the ramp during January.
Despite promising South Australians that Labor would fix ramping and urging people to ‘vote like their life depends on it’, this latest data means:
- Peter Malinauskas has now delivered the 32 of the worst months of ramping in South Australia’s history.
- Patients and paramedics have spent more than 123,000 hours stuck outside our hospitals on the ramp since Labor was elected, or the equivalent of 13 years. For comparison, 75,000 hours were lost to the ramp during the entire four-year term of the former Liberal Government.
- Last month’s ramping figures are around 1900 hours worse than the last full month of the former Liberal Government.
Leader of the Opposition, Vincent Tarzia said this data is another bitter disappointment for South Australians, as Peter Malinauskas’ promise to fix ramping continues to fall short.
“These numbers are truly diabolical and the fact that Peter Malinauskas and Chris Picton are more interested in political spin, packaging this data in with another health announcement, instead of focusing on their seismic failures, is shocking but unsurprising,” Mr Tarzia said.
“South Australians deserve better, and they deserve to be treated in their most vulnerable moments without facing significant delays.”
Shadow Minister for Health, Ashton Hurn said that in addition to another terrible month of ramping, the new Report on Government Service data is another cause for concern.
“Not only is ramping through the roof, but this latest data also shows that less than half of South Australians presenting to a hospital in an emergency are seen on time,” Mrs Hurn said.
“Patients need to be seen within 10 minutes in an emergency, and roughly six out of 10 people aren’t - that makes South Australia the worst in the nation. Our health system has never been in worse shape, under a Premier and Minister who promised to fix it.”
