Labor failing to find work for under 30s

Friday 22 November, 2024

The Opposition says the Malinauskas Government has failed South Australia’s young workers with the unemployment rate for people under 30 living in Adelaide dramatically increasing to stand at 9.3% in October 2024.

Leader of the Opposition Vincent Tarzia said the data shows clearly that Labor has ignored younger South Australians looking for work.

“More than 20,000 South Australian’s aged under 30 are unemployed in Greater Adelaide alone,” said Mr Tarzia.

Mr Tarzia said the situation is not much better for young people living in regional South Australia.

“The statistics out today reveal for those people under 30, living outside metropolitan Adelaide the unemployment rate has risen from 1.3% to 5.1% and if you’re a woman in regional SA the situation is also grim.

The unemployment rate for females under 30 in regional SA increased from 3.5% to 7.7% in the month of October.

Shadow Treasurer, Sam Telfer said the latest data was a sad indictment on this Labor Government which has failed to develop a plan to provide stability for the regions.

“We know from data released yesterday that growth in South Australia is stalling.

Gross State Product rose by just 1.2%, the equal second weakest growth in the nation.

“The data confirms what South Australian businesses and families already know, the South Australian economy has put the brakes on,” said Mr Telfer.
