Hon John Gardner MP to leave politics

Friday 13 December, 2024

After four terms and almost 16 years as the Member for Morialta, Deputy Leader John Gardner has called time on politics.

I have worked closely with John as neighbouring local Members for over 10 years, advocating for wins in our local area, with significant community wins such as the upgrades to the Paradise Interchange Park’n’Ride Car Park Upgrade and the Graves St / Newton Road intersection.

As a Ministerial colleague in Government, John was a pivotal part of reforming the South Australian education system, notably managing the shift of Year 7’s into secondary school & overseeing enormous capital upgrades to our schooling infrastructure across our state.

In the north eastern suburbs, John’s leadership in education saw the delivery of a much needed new school in Morialta Secondary College.

John’s advocacy will continue to 2026, and we take the opportunity now to recognise his significant contributions to our community and our state as he transitions to a life after politics.

His service as Deputy Leader has been exemplary, helping our Party to navigate our way through some recent challenging times. I thank him for his incredible support and wisdom.

John Gardner is one of the most hard-working people I know – and he is a thoroughly decent and honourable man to boot.

On behalf of his Liberal Party colleagues I wish him well in his next endeavours.
