The Marshall Liberal Government will help improve the safety of South Australians by future-proofing Crime Stoppers, supporting the organisation with a cash boost worth more than $800,000.
The investment of $200,000 indexed over four years will be unveiled in the State Budget 2020-21 and is the first of its kind for the not-for-profit organisation.
This ongoing funding will allow Crime Stoppers to expand its operations across South Australia, including measures to stop rural criminal activity.
Attorney-General Vickie Chapman said the State Government supports the crime-fighting charity and acknowledges its dedication has helped SAPOL achieve cold case breakthroughs in high-profile murders because of public tip-offs.
“Crime Stoppers has supported SAPOL since 1996 and provides information that has so far helped solve about 30,000 crimes,” Attorney-General Chapman said.
“This funding shows we are dedicated to maintaining a safe and strong South Australia.
“Crime Stoppers helps SAPOL keep communities safe by collecting vital information about criminals and their suspicious activities.
“South Australians can feel comfortable and assured their information, provided confidentially to the hotline, will make a difference.”
Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services Vincent Tarzia said the funding would invigorate Crime Stoppers and support it to continue proactive crime awareness campaigns and education programs.
“This cash injection is another way the State Government is committed to upholding law and order in South Australia,” Minister Tarzia said.
“Crime Stoppers has aided in the arrests of wanted fugitives and helped identify drug dealers and drug lab locations that threaten community safety. Crime Stoppers is a trusted service we are proud to support because it makes a difference.”
