Good news about changes to developments allowed in Campbelltown

Thursday 29 August, 2019

I have good news about the type of developments that will be allowed in the Campbelltown area, from now on. To date this has been one of the most contentious issues in the community and the electorate has been incredibly vocal in seeking a change to the current Development Plan. I made a commitment to the people of Hartley, at the last election, to advocate for improved development guidelines for the area. It was clear that the balance on development under the previous Government was not quite right.

Upon being re-elected, I undertook a survey of the electorate to find out what the thoughts of residents were on development. I presented these results to the Campbelltown Council and brought Hon Stephan Knoll MP, Minister for Planning, out to Hartley to see firsthand what was going on in our community. Following written agreement from the Minister, and after community consultation and input from both Council and DPTI, I am pleased to inform you the Minister has now approved the Development Plan Amendment (DPA).

One key outcome for people in Campbelltown results in an increase of the minimum allotment size for Residential Flat Buildings from an average of 150m2 now to 250m2.

Further, the incoming State wide Planning and Design Code, which will be on public consultation from October, will provide changes to relevant residential zones to include:

  • Minimum requirements for landscaped areas and tree planting;
  • Retention of on-street parking;
  • Maximum driveway widths for narrow frontages;
  • Minimum internal garage dimensions;
  • Landscaping requirements for common driveways;
  • Separation of vehicle paths from dwellings on common driveways; and
  • Improvements to minimum landscaped areas between the street and dwellings.

These improvements will help to facilitate higher quality infill housing while ensuring our suburbs are developed sustainably and in accordance with community expectations.

Feel free to contact my office to obtain further details about the DPA.

Thank you to all those who shared their views on this important issue in our community and please do not hesitate to contact me if there is ever anything that I may be able to be of assistance with.

Yours sincerely

Hon Vincent Tarzia MP
