Call on Premier to redirect Vailo sponsorship money to creditors who are hurting

The Opposition is calling on the Premier to come clean about what he knows about any money owing from Vailo to creditors.

The Opposition has learned that creditors are alleged to be owed payments, some in the tens of thousands of dollars and more than six months overdue.

This comes after reports in The Advertiser that offices were the subject of a raid by agents of federal authorities on Wednesday.

“Creditors have contacted the Opposition this week detailing their concerns,” said Leader of the Opposition, Vincent Tarzia.

Vailo holds the naming rights to one of the state’s biggest sporting events, the Vailo Adelaide 500.

“Peter Malinauskas needs to proactively pursue what is going on and do due diligence about any money owed.

“If the naming rights sponsor of one of South Australia’s major events is owing money to small businesses, we believe the Government should redirect sponsorship funds to these workers.

“Labor says it’s the champion of working people, yet here we see hardworking small business owners allegedly out of pocket for work they’ve done and a Premier who seemingly doesn’t care.

“He is too busy getting photos standing next to celebrities like Katy Perry than standing up for small business owners.

“Our fear is that taxpayers are once again exposed by this inept Government. Peter Malinauskas must come clean.

“Just days ago we heard that the proton therapy treatment facility is in ruins and that the state has lost upwards of $50 million.

“They just can’t be trusted with taxpayer money.

Among the people who are allegedly owed money is Matt Kowald, who says he has been owed $30,000 by Vailo for months.

“I have been chasing and chasing the money owed. I have been told on numerous occasions the payment is in the next pay run but it never comes,” said Mr Kowald.

“It doesn’t seem fair that the corporate suites occupied by Government and the naming rights sponsor will be awash with champagne when those of us owed money have to beg to be paid.”
