By-election for Seat of Black

Wednesday 16 October, 2024

The Leader of the Opposition, Vincent Tarzia, has welcomed the announcement today that the by-election for the Seat of Black will be held on 16 November 2024.

“The people of Black deserve to be represented in the South Australian Parliament as soon as possible, and I am pleased that the Speaker and the Electoral Commissioner have agreed on 16 November as the date for the poll,” Mr Tarzia said.

The Liberal Party has chosen Amanda Wilson as its candidate.

Ms Wilson is well known in the Southern suburbs and beaches for her prior service to the City of Holdfast Bay, particularly as its first female mayor.

Ms Wilson comes from a legal background, practising as a lawyer at an Adelaide law firm before starting her family.

Ms Wilson has taken a leave of absence from her role as City of Holdfast Bay Mayor, commencing her campaign on Saturday with an announcement that a Tarzia Liberal Government is committed to delivering a safety upgrade to the Marino Train Station to deter crime and anti-social behaviour, and ensure commuters feel safe using our transport system.

“People want their represented members to carefully consider the things that are important to them, they want us to focus on the things that matter – energy prices, food prices and they need to know they can call an ambulance and not be stuck on a ramp in their hours of need,” Ms Wilson said.

“I know from what I hear, from the families I talk to everyday, that they are hurting. Many people are really struggling to make ends meet, with high energy and food prices and a Labor Government that seems to be deaf to their needs.”

Mr Tarzia said he is confident Ms Wilson will join the Liberal team in the Parliament - getting on with the job of holding this Labor Government to account.
