Member for Hartley, Vincent Tarzia, is calling on the State Government to help upgrade the female facilities at the Hectorville Sports and Community Club.

Member for Hartley, Vincent Tarzia, is calling on the State Government to help upgrade the female facilities at the Hectorville Sports and Community Club.

Mr Tarzia said that while it is a vibrant club, it is urgently in need of better female facilities to accommodate the growth in female sport at the club.

“The Hectorville Sports and Community Club is a thriving club with hundreds of members and an ever-increasing demand for women’s competitions in various sports in 2018,” Mr Tarzia said.

“I am informed that in a recent audit conducted by the SANFL and the AFL Facility Audit, the change room facilities at the club were rated as “Poor, score 16/62” with multiple quality issues raised. Umpires facilities were awarded a 2/26.”

“Even more alarming is the fact that female facilities at Hectorville Sports and Community Club was awarded a 0/10 score.”

“In order for the club to reach its potential in the female sports area, it urgently needs upgraded female facilities and would benefit from a grant greatly.”

There is significant demand for female facilities at the club, and after only one year of offering girls football, the club already has 15% of its junior footballers being female. Next year the club is even looking to add a female U16’s and U8’s team, on top of the female U10’s, U12’s and U14’s.”

The Hectorville Sports and Community Club must be awarded funding in the upcoming state funding round of the Female Facilities Program of the Office of Recreation and Sport, and as the Member for Hartley I am determined to ensure this comes to fruition,” Mr Tarzia said.
